De lezing vindt plaats in zaal Atlas van het Koningsbergergebouw, Budapestlaan 4b. Dit gebouw bevindt zich naast het Minnaertgebouw. Omdat het Minnaertgebouw begin 2016 wordt gesloten voor renovatie, zullen wij in het vervolg onze lezingen in deze zaal organiseren. |
The Discovery of the Cosmos
We live in a pivotal moment in the exploration of the cosmos. For the first time in human history, we have been able to observe the most remote corners of our universe both in time and space. And sure enough, we have found plenty of surprises: Dark Matter and Dark Energy, making up 95% of the stuff in the universe resembles nothing of what we see around us; The first fraction of a second after the big bang obliges us to consider yet more new forces and particles, like the inflaton. In this talk I will provide an accessible overview of what we currently understand of the cosmos (and what we don't) and speculate on the exciting times ahead.
