week 33 - 2017

14-18 August Summerschool Theoretical Physics
Program

Dear Colleagues,
On Tuesday October 3, 2017 we are organizing a Symposium "Black Hole Physics in the Netherlands”, held at the Grand Hotel Karel V in central Utrecht.
The aim is to bring together researchers from all over the country, interested and working on black holes, to do community building, and to bridge the gap between theory and astrophysical observations. We have four distinguished speakers covering a broad range of topics: astrophysical black holes, black hole binaries and gravitational waves, and black hole theory and quantum gravity:

Jo van den Brand (Nikhef and VU)
Gerard ’t Hooft (UU)
Samaya Nissanke (RU)
Ralph Wijers (UvA)

There will also be time for discussions and for people presenting themselves and the research activities in their group. Attached you find the poster and a preliminary program.
The Symposium will be supported by the National Science Agenda (NWA), Route 5, “Bouwstenen der Materie en Fundamenten van ruimte en tijd”. Black hole physics is a central topic in Route 5, the idea of bringing different communities together lies at the heart of the NWA, and we hope our symposium can be the start for further activities within Route 5.
It is important to register in time, since we have maximal capacity of 120 people. The deadline is September 1 and registration can be done online via the link: https://www.sron.nl/blackholes-in-nl
More details can be found in the attachment. Registration is free and lunch and borrel are included.
We hope to all welcome you for this event!
Best regards,
Peter Jonker (SRON and RU)
Stefan Vandoren (Institute for Theoretical Physics, UU)

DELTA ITP
ADVANCED TOPICS IN THEORETICAL PHYSICS II (FALL 2017)
NON-EQUILIBRIUM QUANTUM FIELD THEORY
This fall's Delta ITP Course Advanced Topics in Theoretical Physics aimed at advanced Master’s students, PhD and postdoctoral researchers, is built around the general theme of "Non-equilibrium quantum field theory".
Lectures will take place on Mondays at 11:15-13:00, followed by a study/exercise session 13:45- 17:00.
The course will be divided into three 5-week modules; for each one there are four lectures (3hrs each) and four exercise sessions (3hrs each). At the end of the module there is an exam.
