Emergency
In case of emergency dial 4444 (Alarm) listed on a sticker
on your telephone. This 4444 number is the emergency number of the
university for reporting fires and other life threatening situations and
is connected to the national alarm number 112. For
non-life threatening situations like a leaking water tap, broken window
etc. please contact first the secretariat. Outside office hours notify
security "beveiliging" on 1300.
Buildings
The buildings of the Department Minnaert Building (MG), Buys
Ballot Laboratory (BBL), Ornstein Laboratory (OL), R.J. van de Graaff
Laboratory (RvdG) are open between 8.00 and 18.00h. To enter the
buildings outside these office hours you need a magnetic card (XS-card).
Please contact the secretariat (room 402 (Olga)) for an application
form for an XS-card. FBU-security personnel are authorized to ask for
your XS-card and identification card. Smoking is not allowed in
buildings of the University.
Secretariat
The ITP/Spinoza secretariat is located in room 402.
The opening hours are 9.00-17.00 Monday to Friday. Els Brochard works on
Monday, Thursday, Tuesday and Friday Olga Sobrino
Gutierrez works Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Library
There is a small library with journals and handbooks on the
fourth floor (room 427) of the Institute. The library is open during the
opening hours of the secretariat. An overview of the collection is

The Physics and Astronomy library is housed in the University
Library, Heidelberglaan 3. Information about opening hours and the

Occupational Health, Environment and safety

Restaurant
The "restaurant" of the Minnaert building (eastside, 1st floor) is open from
9.00h to 14.00h from Monday to Friday. Lunch (drinks, soup, bread,
snacks) is available from 12.00h. It is only possible to pay with a so-called "chipknip"
card. This card can be obtained from banks and can be loaded in special
machines. A machine that dispenses
€
10,- or € 20,- disposable "chipknip" cards
can be found at the entrance to the restaurant.
The restaurant is closed on bank holidays.
Useful organisations
The International Neighbour Group
(ING) organises a wide range social activities
for
foreigners visiting or working at Utrecht University. There are also
several organisations for foreign
students.
The
James Boswell Instituut organises Dutch language courses.
The SSH can supply
housing for temporary staff. For more information contact
